RAS Hatchery systems

Our team is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art design solutions for recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) hatcheries. Dr. Bent Urup has played a key role in the design and technology supply of several hatcheries around the world. These facilities utilize technology that originated from and was created and developed by Dr. Bent Urup during his PhD. It was initially applied to produce Turbot juveniles, and then optimized and adjusted over the years for several species such as Kingfish and tuna.

We understand that the design of a RAS hatchery is critical to the success of an aquaculture operation (in conjunction with good management practices). The hatchery is where feeding practices are introduced for the first time, making it a crucial facility for many species. Depending on the species, this may require a more complex feeding regime, which may involve integrating copepod culture, Rotifer culture, Artemia culture, algae culture, and other practices.

As we work in a highly dynamic environment with exponential growth curves, a variety of living organisms such as larvae, algae, bacterial blooms, and zooplankton (which depends on the cultured species) are constantly mixing. As a result, each tank ecosystem develops a unique pattern even if we manage them in the same way. Thus, to achieve consistent results, it's crucial to manage each tank individually and keep them on track.

The general idea within the design is to facilitate flexibility for the hatchery manager to operate and manage the hatchery in various ways by providing the best technology to manage the production in a layout which minimizes the risk of errors.

Our RAS hatchery designs are based on the Hatchery technology developed by Dr. Bent Urup, with or without use of cultured copepods (depending on species). There is a trustworthy track record of Dr. Bent Urup hatchery technology, for instance, Maximus A/S became the first company to successfully crack the code to produce juvenile turbot without deformities or poor pigmentation, with uniform growth and a strong immune response system.

Dr. Bent Urup has designed and implemented RAS hatcheries for a range of species, including Turbot, Salmon, Trout, Halibut, Yellowtail Kingfish, Sole and Tuna.

At Aqua-Partner, we work closely with the client to understand their requirements and develop a customized solution that meets your needs.
